Sandusky Supermodified Nationals This Week

The 40th Annual Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals takes center stage Thursday through Saturday next week at Sandusky Speedway. On Thurs. July 27 it will be Fan Appreciation Night. Admission is one dollar plus one dollar concession stand specials. Racing will be the Sportsman, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks. The pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand admission at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps at 4:30 p.m. Qualifying is at 6 p.m. Racing is at 7:30 p.m.
Fri. July 28 the International Super Modified Association (ISMA) Supermodifieds run preliminary races and the Fast 40: lap feature. The Modifieds are the support division and have a 30 lap, $1,000 to win feature. Adult admission is $25, $23 for Seniors (65+), $7 ages 6-12, free to ages 5 and younger. The pit gates open at 2 p.m., Grandstand admission at 4 p.m. Hot laps at 4 p.m. Time trials are at 6:30 p.m. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. A pit pass is $40 for one day or $75 for two days.
On Saturday the ISMA Supermodifieds run preliminary races then the 100 lap feature race. The Modifieds have a 50 lap feature. Adult admission is $28, $26 for Seniors ages 65 +, $7 ages 6-12, free to ages 5 and younger. The pit gate opens at 10 a.m., Grandstand admission starts at 1 p.m. The hot lap sessions start at 1 p.m. Time trials will be at 4 p.m. Racing will be at 7 p.m.  No coolers are allowed in the grandstands. Former Lorain County Speedway owner Nick Bonnema had a successful operation to remove a brain tumor earlier this week. Nick will be in recovery for about the next three months.
Lorain County Speedway will be idle next Saturday night July 29 for the Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals at Sandusky Speedway.
Racing resumes at LCS on Sat. Aug. 5 with the Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) Supermodifieds making their third appearance of the season. Joining the MSA Supermodifieds will be the Street Stocks who have another 40  lap feature race, The Modifieds, Crate Sprint Cars, Pure Stocks and Chargers will see action. Jon McKennedy Wins First Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals

Sandusky, Ohio – July 25, 2015…Jon McKennedy became the seventh different International Supermodified Association, (ISMA), winner this season when he came home with his first-ever Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals 100 win Saturday night.

While Jon had not been in victory lane at this prestigious race which dates back 38 years, the car he was driving had been. Last season owners Clyde and Susan Booth stood in victory lane with Lou Cicconi who took his first ever Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals victory in the same car. Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals Weekend Notes

Action Concludes with 100 Lapper Tonight

The 38th Annual Hy-Miler Supermodified Nationals will close tonight at Sandusky Speedway. The action started on Thurs. with Fan Appreciation Night, the racing action was provided by the Buckeye Super Sprints (BSS), Ohio Stocks, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks. Taking the feature wins on Thursday were Steve Irwin (Buckeye Super Sprints); Jerry Karl (Ohio Stocks); Matt Wilson (Street Stocks) and Brandon Short (Hobby Stocks).

The International SuperModified Association (ISMA) supermodifieds headlined yesterdays racing program, running preliminary events and wrapped up with the Friday Night Fast 40 feature race. The Modifieds were the support division.

Tonight the ISMA supermodifieds and the Modifieds will once again take to the half mile oval with the ISMA Supermodifieds running a 100 lap feature and the Modifieds will have a 50 lap feature.

The current ISMA Supermodified top ten point standings are led by a very familiar name when it comes to supermodified racing in this area, Dave Shullick Jr. who has 672 points. Runner up is Mike Lichty with 635 points followed by Mark Sammut 597; Jeff Locke 563; Ben Seitz 539; Jon McKennedy 533; Eddie Witkum Jr. 519; Danny Shirey 519; Chris Perley 467 and Rob Summers with 449 points.

The current Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) top ten point standings are Charlie Schultz 162; Jon Henes 157; A.J. Lesiecki 155; Jim Paller 150; Kevin Jaycox Jr. 139; Joey Wyckoff / Kevin Shirey 136; Larry Lehnert 117; Kyle Edwards 81; Mike McVetta 77 and Denny Fisher with 67 points. Jim Paller was the MSA feature winner at Midvale Speedway last Saturday night.

With the current construction that is being done on Rt. 250, race fans might want to consider taking the Rt. 4 exit from Rt. 2 to get to Sandusky Speedway. Today the pit area will open early at 10 a.m. The grandstand admission starts at 1 p.m., qualifying is at 4 p.m. and racing will begin at 7 p.m. Adult admission is $28, $26 Seniors (65+); $7 ages 6-12, $40 for a pit pass. No coolers are allowed in the grandstands.
