Supermodified Racer Will Try Hand at Modified Racing

Two-Time Mr. Supermodified Ray Graham to Pull Double Duty at Season Opener

OSWEGO, NY (April 21, 2015) – When Oswego Speedway goes green flag racing for the 65th consecutive season on Saturday, May 9, the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS will be joined by the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series Richie Evans Memorial.

The triple-header will serve as a blockbuster opener for the ‘Steel Palace’ with 155-laps of green flag feature action taking place, presented by Planet Fitness and Mitchell’s Speedway Press.

The annual Richie Evans Memorial, won last season by Matt Hirschman, will be the second event of the Race of Champions Modified season and will feature two-time $10,000 Mr. Novelis Supermodified champion Ray Graham in the line-up.

With a brand new LFR Modified chassis on order out of Mooresville, NC, Graham is excited to join a long list of supermodified drivers to pull modified double duty, while fulfilling a lifelong dream.

“I grew up going to Fulton Speedway when it was asphalt,” said Graham.  “We watched guys like Evans, Maynard Troyer, and other great’s race.  Ever since then it has always been something I wanted to try.”

Graham will field two supermodifieds weekly at Oswego for himself and his son Kody, also a former Mr. Supermodified champion, while making plans to contend in all three RoC Modified shows at Oswego.

“We want to run all the shows at Oswego and perhaps some races at Lancaster or Shangri La at the end of the season with the modified,” said Graham.  “Our main focus is weekly supermodified racing at Oswego, but we want to learn and have fun on the modified side of things too.”

LFR Chassis Inc. has been on a tear as of late, earning their first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory just last weekend at the Thompson International Speedway Icebreaker, with Doug Coby at the wheel.  Graham is excited at the prospect of working and learning with the LFR group.

“They build a great piece and have proven results,” said Graham.  “Doug (Coby) recently dominated at Thompson, and as a two-time champion you may expect that.  The Meyers boys have also had a lot of success with the cars down south.  It will be a great base for us to get started with, and for our crew to learn as we go through the season.”

Fans can see Graham in Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series action beginning on May 9, but also when the series returns on Budweiser International Classic 200 Weekend on September 4, and of course during the SUNOCO Race of Champions Modified 200 on September 19.

Returning to Oswego supermodified action full-time in 2015, Graham will join the likes of Geoff Bodine, Jim Shampine, Guy Chartrand, Mike McLaughlin, Doug Heveron, Eddie Bellinger, Joe Gosek, and recently Otto Sitterly – as drivers to attack the 5/8 mile in both a supermodified and modified.

Oswego Speedway’s 2015 racing season will kick off in just three weeks on Saturday, May 9 with the 65th annual opening night celebration featuring the lid lifters for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS, as well as the 75-lap Richie Evans Memorial for the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series presented by Planet Fitness and Mitchell’s Speedway Press.

Pit gates will open on May 9 at 11:30 a.m. with practice getting underway at 1:30 p.m.  Time trials for supermodifieds and SBS will be held at 4 p.m., with the first heat race of the season going green at 5 p.m.

General admission for the 65th annual opening night celebration will be $25, reserved seating $35, and pit admission $40.

Kids 16 and under with paid adult and active military with I.D. are free.

Oswego Speedway will also hold an open practice session on Saturday, May 2 from 1-5 p.m.  The practice is open to all cars competing at Oswego in 2015, with admission to the grandstands being free.
