On the Soapbox: You Gotta Fight for Your Right

As someone who visits this website, you must have at least a passing interest in auto racing. It’s not hard for me to believe that the majority of you reading this post right now are die-hard supermodified fans that continue to follow Wing Side Up for news and information.

With that being said, I’d like to take a moment to urge you to consider the fact that when you vote in today’s Midterm Elections, you can choose candidates that may or may not decide to support local, state, and national laws that are favorable to you and me continuing our obsession with auto racing in general and supermodified racing specifically.

United States of America flag
Voting is not only your right, it is your civic duty to protect what this flag stands for.

Not all of you will have a candidate that is up for re-election, but it’s important to remember that for our Republic to work right, and in the way our founding fathers envisioned, you need to focus as much on your local elections as you do on national ones. You have to remember that this election has national consequences because it will help decide what happens in the United States Congress and leads up to the national presidential election.

It certainly isn’t easy to know which candidate to choose when you are looking at the ballot behind the closed curtain. I admit, I am sometimes overwhelmed, what with all the political advertisements and rhetoric, ( boy wouldn’t you love to have just a tenth of the budget these people spend to use for a supermodified purse?), but if you allow that frustration to make you complacent and apathetic, it will only be a short time where you don’t have any rights at all.

So to help you out, I’ve embedded the following tool for you provided by WordPress, Google, and the Pew Charitable Trusts.  It will help you find your polling place, give you election, and you will find answers to  questions about what will be on your particular ballot. You can use this tool from right here on by filling in your registered voting address below.

(Please note, state data is released as Pew gets it from the state’s election authority.  If you live in a state that is slow or didn’t submit the info, you may not be able to use this tool.)

You can also visit Vote411 or for information on when, where, and how to vote for your location.

I hope that you remember that today is the day that you can exercise your right to pick the officials that govern you. Take advantage of this privilege and be a part of the process because you gotta fight for your right to go supermodified racing!
