OSWEGO, NY (June 3, 2013) – The second round of the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries will take the green flag this Saturday, June 8 at Oswego Speedway, as the race continues to crown the first winged Supermodified track champion at the Speedway in 63 years.
The evening’s racing will feature the second ISMA Supermodified main event of the 2013 season which will run 50-laps in length, as well as a 35-lap Pathfinder Bank SBS feature presented by Crop Production Services.
With the help of Shea Concrete, the overall point champion of the four race series will take home a cool $2,000, with the top five in the overall standings receiving added bonus cash.
Pit gates will open Saturday at 2pm, with grandstand gates opening and hot laps beginning at 3pm. ISMA Supermodified time trials will take the green flag at 5pm, followed by racing at 6:30pm.
A potential rain date for this weekend’s racing is set for Sunday, June 9.
The four race Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries began back on May 4 with Chris Perley coming out of semi-retirement to dominate the field in the Irish Jack Murphy Memorial 56, on his way to victory and the early point lead in the series.
Perley, of Rowley, MA, now holds a 24 point edge on Aston, PA shoe Lou Cicconi driving the No. 71, which is the Vic Miller owned team car to Perley.
Cicconi set a brand new winged Supermodified track record at the Speedway back on May 4 with a lap of 15.164 seconds and then chased Perley across the line in the main event as the runner-up finisher. The No. 11 and No. 71 Vic Miller mounts are no doubt the cars to beat at Oswego in winged contention.
Canadian driver Mark Sammut drove to a third place finish on May 4, which puts him a solid third in the current ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries standings. Trailing Cicconi by only four points, the No. 78 of Sammut is the top contender toward the Miller duo of winged racers.
A new tandem in ISMA competition for 2013 is Ray Graham and Clyde Booth, and the team certainly made well together back on May 4 with a fourth place finish in the 56-lap lid lifter. Driving to a qualifying heat win in the No. 61, Graham rides fourth in the current standings just eight markers behind Sammut. While Graham has yet to compete at Oswego in non-wing competition, he is one of the drivers excepted to pull double duty this season.
Finishing the top five in the early standings is Bobby Dawson, driver of the No. 28. Dawson drove to a top five run back on May 4, edging out defending Bud Light ISMA SuperNationals champion Timmy Jedrzejek in the Soule owned No. 32.
Completing the top ten in the standings are Jedrzejek, Jon McKennedy, Bobby Magner, Dave McKnight, and Bob Reis.
McKnight comes into Oswego this weekend with a great deal of momentum after collecting back-to-back winged Supermodified wins in the midwest two weeks ago. Driving the Gary Morton owned No. 70; McKnight took consecutive MSRSS wins at Winchester (IN) Speedway and Anderson (IN) Speedway in mid-May.
A total of 25 ISMA Supermodifieds came through Oswego’s pit gates back on May 4 with 24 taking the green flag after Ohio driver Moe Lilje cracked the outside wall in warm-ups driving the No. 8.
Jedrzejek, Brandon Bellinger, Dan Connors Jr., Shaun Gosselin, Lou LeVea Sr., and Lou LeVea Jr. are the six drivers who have so far scored points in both the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries as well as the non-wing Novelis Supermodified championship.
Oswego Speedway will post updates to www.oswegospeedway.com, Twitter and Facebook as more non-wing drivers declare their intent to run this weekend with the ISMA Supermodified series.
Admission prices for the second round of the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries are set at $25 for general admission seating, $30 for padded reserved seating, and $90 for VIP seating.
Limited VIP seating is available for Saturday which includes all you can eat and drink as well as A/C and closed circuit television for replays. Call the Speedway box office at (315) 342-0646 to reserve.
