CLOVIS, Calif. (March 11, 2013) – Penix Racing and driver Kyle Vanderpool are preparing for a busy 2013 season that will see the open-wheel team race two different applications of supermodifieds at tracks throughout the United States.
The California-based team, led by owners Don and Chuck Penix, has a pair of pristine supermodifieds ready for action in this season. For the first time in the team’s history Penix Racing will take its show outside of California and east of the Mississippi, where Vanderpool, who’ll be behind the wheel of a new 2012 Belfab chassis, will challenge the top east-coast super teams and drivers in the Must See Racing, MSA and ISMA supermodified series.
Penix Racing will open its 2013 campaign with their faithful Hyder west-coast super chassis at their home track, Madera Speedway in Madera, Calif. The season kicks off March 23 at Madera, where Vanderpool has excelled with a number of feature wins over the last couple years. Penix Racing will return to Madera May 4 for the track’s second supermodified event of the year.

Mid-May is when things get interesting. The Penix team will travel east to Indiana, where the Must See Racing series showcases the fast world of winged supermodified racing at iconic Hoosier State short tracks in Winchester and Anderson speedways. The team will run Winchester Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, before closing the three-race swing on Monday, May 20, at Anderson.
“Kyle’s plane ticket to Indianapolis is already purchased, so I hope things don’t change now,” Don Penix jokingly stated. “We’re looking forward to pursuing success on the east coast, and we’re happy to start our racing with the new Belfab with Must See Racing. It will be interesting, but we’ll have a lot of testing time underneath the car, and I think we’ll fare OK once we get to Indiana.”
Penix refers to the 2012 Belfab super chassis his team purchased last summer, built by Jim Belfiore and his Belfab Racing Products crew in Las Vegas. Since the Penix team took possession of the east-coast super, they’ve tested it several times at Madera and will continue to do so throughout the next couple months.
“We want Kyle to have every opportunity to do well with the Must See Racing series and MSA and ISMA, as well. The car is immaculate, and Jim and his team did an awesome job fabricating it. We’re really excited to get going. It seems like we’ve tested for a year now, and it’s time to do some racing!” Penix added.
The rest of the season will see Penix Racing split their efforts between west-coast racing at Madera and a variety of east-coast events with Must See, MSA and ISMA. Tentative events on the team’s calendar include most Must See shows throughout the Midwest, the prestigious ISMA Hy-Miler Nationals in July at Sandusky (Ohio) Speedway and the MSA season-closing doubleheader show at Sandusky in October.
Vanderpool says he’s just as excited to go racing with the Belfab, a car he’s become comfortable with during test sessions in California.
“Oh, of course I’m ready to get racing,” Vanderpool began. “I’m very lucky to be in this place, and a big thanks goes to Don and Chuck Penix and everyone involved in this effort. We want to go east and do well, but we also want to gain the respect of the racers and teams in those series. They don’t really know us, and I don’t know too many of them, and we want to race clean, have fun and of course, we hope to do well for not only ourselves, but our sponsors, fans and supporters all over the country.”
Now fans throughout the world can keep up with Penix Racing’s efforts via their all-new website at The new site features the team’s full 2013 schedule, photos, news, bios, social networking and much more. Once the season kicks off, the site will continue to be updated with latest results, press releases and photography.
